FingerTips™ were developed in response to my facing a public high school orchestra class - which contained beginners, intermediate and advanced students all at the same time. They played badly out of tune and had little patience for time-consuming corrections. Also, in my private instruction, I was increasingly frustrated with spending an entire lesson on intonation, only to have the student go home and place their fingers where they were comfortable, not where they were in tune. My students with limited pitch sense would simply play slightly out of tune without being bothered by it. My students with a good pitch sense would place their fingers where comfortable and then slide the finger to the correct pitch, creating tension and learning inaccurate finger placement. With FingerTips™, my students could get their fingers over the right spots first. FingerTips™ is not a replacement for ear-training and listening, but YOU CAN'T HEAR THE PITCH BEFORE YOU PLAY IT!

FingerTips™ allow ALL students to experience success. It has been particularly useful with students who have no musical background, limited pitch sense, students with learning disabilities and students who do not speak English. Students line up fingers before they play, then LISTEN to monitor accuracy while they read their music. It saves a thousand words of instruction. When teaching a large class, it's easy to spot the student who's playing out of tune. FingerTips™ make it possible for an older student to join the orchestra and catch up to more experienced players. It is very helpful to a new teacher in a class setting to teach instruments other than their primary instrument. That first orchestra class made such progress that they earned an excellent rating at their state orchestra contest.
